A Letter to my future 40-year old self, when things will be different!

A Letter to my future self.

Dear 40-year-old Me,

The year is 2028. That’s 12 years from now. I wonder what it is like then. Is Zuck the President of USA now? Did the Brexit happen? Has Tesla taken over the world? Has the oil industry just collapsed like all your “IIT” friends told you? How is it in the future?

I feel like it’s gonna be a big milestone of your life, turning from the big 3 to the big 4, you know? Most women are scared of the big 4! I hope you don’t feel so scared of this transition though. After all you are a Capricorn, you will age gracefully! Everything will be just fine even if it doesn’t seem so at times. But relax, You have me, no matter what. You don’t have to be scared. I won’t abandon you. Remember what dad said “Tomorrow is a new day”! The future is always bright.

I don’t know who you are yet, what your new favourite food is or what your new favourite colour is or whether you are still as stubborn as I am now. But one thing is sure that I will be you.

I genuinely hope you are having some kind of adventures right now, that you are doing something to make you feel alive. A little trip to Europe, maybe? Did you finally make that DDLJ inspired Euro Trip with the man of your dreams? Are you still into India like I am now? Or do you have a new favourite continent now? Are you still hustling behind Storified.me? Did you make it to the Fortune 40 under 40? God, I can’t wait to be you. I sure hope you are fluent in Mandarin by now! Then go ahead, and pick up a new language.

I am not sure where you are in life at the moment, but I sure hope that you are happy. I hope your view about life hasn’t changed in one aspect that is you still deeply believe that life is beautiful. I hope nothing that has happened the last 12 years leading to your big 40 has corrupted your mind to believe otherwise.

If you get distracted along the way by the stress and hassle of life, I hope you find your way back eventually, to that place, you know, a happy place is all I want you to be, regardless of the reasons or circumstances.

I hope at 40, you are still living life full of love and surrounded by the wonderful people who have come into your life and stayed with you through it all. How are mom and dad? They must have aged and need you more now. Are you still in love with the same guy that you met when you were 28? Did you find someone who understands you? Are you married and did you finally name your son Arjun and daughter Radhika. How is your amazing monster-oopsie- mother-in-law? Did she turn out to be the mom you imagined? Did you tell her how much people scared you about her but still you always knew she will be different?

But if some people come and leave, that’s fine too. None of them owes you anything.

They have their lives to live and let them. There is nothing wrong with people leaving, you just wish them all the best and hope they find their happiness. And maybe you can remember this little tip: people come and go. Relax. Breathe.

And one last thing, no matter what you are doing now and who you are now, I hope you never take anything in your life for granted, your family, friends, blessings, good memories even bad ones and even challenges, obstacles and struggles in life. Don’t take them for granted and don’t wish the undesirable circumstances away as they are the reasons why I am you 12 years from now. Go through them all (maybe even with a smile on your face) & grow into someone that I am proud of.

All the love that I can give you today, I am sending this letter. Do write back to me when its 2028!

Your 28-year-old self
